NIGERIA: FG Debunks Viral Message On Alleged Nationwide School Closure
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed as false a message circulating on social media claiming that schools across the country have been directed to close from 24 November 2025.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, described the information as “false, misleading, and not issued by the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, any State Ministry of Education, or any recognised security agency.”
The ministry urged Nigerians to disregard the viral message, insisting that no such directive has been given at any level of government.
According to the statement, members of the public should, at all times, rely only on verified updates from official channels, including the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, State Governments, State Ministries of Education, and recognised security agencies.
It added that announcements or advisories emanating from unverified sources should not be circulated, as doing so fuels misinformation and creates unnecessary panic.
The ministry appealed to Nigerians to always verify the authenticity of information before sharing it, especially on digital platforms where false reports spread rapidly.
“The public is urged to ignore any school-closure announcement not issued through our official communication lines,” the statement said.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate, timely information and maintaining normal academic activities nationwide.
