The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the Independence Anniversary parade earlier scheduled to hold on Wednesday, October 1, as part of activities to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day.
In a statement issued by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, on Monday, the government said the cancellation does not in any way diminish the significance of the milestone celebration.
“All other programmes slated for the Independence Anniversary will remain in effect,” the statement noted, adding that the decision was taken in the interest of the nation.
The government expressed regret over any inconvenience caused by the cancellation and thanked Nigerians, members of the diplomatic community, and invited guests for their understanding and support.
It further urged citizens to continue backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda aimed at building a greater Nigeria.
