The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has extended warm Ramadan greetings to Muslims across Nigeria, as they begin fasting in the holy month.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Senator George Akume, on behalf of FEC, the Muslim faithful were congratulated for the sighting of the moon, which marks the commencement of Ramadan.
According to the statement, signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations in the OSGF, Segun Imohiosen, Senator Akume urged Muslims to embrace the spiritual importance of Ramadan by upholding values such as piety, steadfastness, love, charity, and sacrifice, as taught in the Qur’an and by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
He emphasized that beyond fasting, Ramadan is a time for deep reflection on faith and national unity.
Additionally, Senator Akume encouraged Nigerians to support the various initiatives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, aimed at addressing food security, poverty eradication, economic growth, job creation, access to capital, security, and youth empowerment.
He highlighted these efforts as crucial to national development and the well-being of all citizens.
The statement reads: “The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, CON, on behalf of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), felicitates with the Muslim faithful on the sighting of the moon, which signals the commencement of fasting in the holy month of Ramadan.
“He urged them to use this sacred period to reflect on the essence of Ramadan, embracing its teachings for spiritual renewal and national development.
“The SGF also enjoins Nigerians to take advantage of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s numerous interventions aimed at fostering economic growth, ensuring food security, eradicating poverty, creating jobs, improving security, and empowering the youth.
“The SGF wishes all Muslim faithful a blessed Ramadan.”
