NIGERIA: Factional NANS President Retracts Allegations, Publicly Apologises To Seyi Tinubu

By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Factional President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Atiku Isah, has made a dramatic U-turn, retracting serious allegations against Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Isah had earlier accused Seyi and the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, of offering him a 100 million naira bribe to promote President Tinubu.
He also claimed he was abducted, stripped naked, and beaten on April 15 after rejecting the alleged offer.
But in a statement he posted on Facebook on Wednesday titled “Setting the Records Straight/Public Apology to Seyi Tinubu,” Isah admitted the claims were false.
He said he was misled by rival NANS President Olusola Ladoja, who allegedly fed him false information to undermine his leadership.
“It has become clear that the offer of 100 million naira, which was alleged was made to me to support President Tinubu, was clearly untrue,” Isah wrote.
He said Ladoja, who he described as desperate to take over the leadership of NANS, manipulated him with lies and half-truths.
Isah also claimed that Ladoja warned him in private that Seyi Tinubu could have him killed and the matter covered up by the police.
He now admits those claims were fabricated and said Seyi Tinubu was not even present at the venue of his inauguration, contrary to his earlier accusations.
“I made these claims owing to the picture of Seyi Tinubu painted to me by Ladoja Olusola,” he wrote.
“I later found out that Mr Seyi was nowhere near the venue.”
Isah also withdrew the allegation that Seyi mobilised thugs to disrupt his inauguration, admitting it was part of the false narrative he was made to believe.
The apology comes amid a leadership crisis within NANS, where multiple factions continue to clash over legitimacy and influence.
Seyi Tinubu has not responded to the apology as at press time.
