NIGERIA: FAAN Warns Against Rising Unruly Passenger Behaviour At Airports
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has expressed concern over the increasing incidents of unruly passenger behaviour at Nigerian airports.
FAAN in a statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs Obiageli Orah, described such conduct as unacceptable in civil aviation and warned that it will not be tolerated.
The agency advised passengers to familiarise themselves with their rights and responsibilities as well as the obligations of airlines, as outlined by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and FAAN bye bylaws.
It warned that sanctions in line with ICAO Annexe 17, Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations Part 17, and FAAN bylaws will be applied against any form of disruptive or threatening behaviour at airports.

FAAN said it is reviewing protocols for restraining and prosecuting unruly passengers in accordance with the Airport Approved Security Programme and relevant laws.
On a recent case involving a passenger on an Ibom Air flight, FAAN said the situation was first handled by security personnel at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Domestic Terminal 2.
The agency’s Aviation Security team later took the passenger into custody and handed her over to the Nigerian Police Force for investigation and prosecution.
The authority urged passengers to behave in a civil and orderly manner and comply with all airport and airline rules.
It assured that safety, security, and comfort of airport users remain a priority, and warned that inappropriate behaviour will attract the full weight of the law.
