NIGERIA: EFCC Deploys Operatives Across FCT To Monitor Council Polls, Combat Vote-Buying
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has deployed operatives to all six area councils in the Federal Capital Territory to monitor the ongoing Saturday council elections.
The deployment forms part of the EFCC’s efforts to safeguard electoral integrity and curb voter inducement and other forms of electoral malpractice during the polls.
Executive Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, directed the operatives to maintain strict surveillance across polling units and collation centres in the six area councils.
He charged them to actively prevent incidents of vote-buying, cash distribution to voters, and any other financial inducements capable of undermining the credibility of the exercise.
The EFCC officers are stationed throughout the FCT to ensure transparency, promote accountable conduct, and deter electoral offences. The Commission reiterated its commitment to supporting free, fair, and credible local government elections by working in collaboration with relevant security agencies and electoral authorities.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious financial activities or attempts at voter inducement to the nearest EFCC operative or through the Commission’s establish
ed channels.
