The candidate of The All-Progressive Congress (APC), Monday Okpebhol, has been officially declared winner of the 2024 Edo state gubernatorial election, by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, who was INEC’s Returning Officer, made the announcement on Sunday.
He disclosed that Monday, having met the requirements of the law has been declared winner of the election.
“The Candidate of the APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the election,” Prof. Kuta announced.
The final results showed that Okpebholo garnered 291,667 votes, defeating his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who secured 247,274 votes.
The candidate of the Labor Party (LP), Olumide Akpata, finished in third place with 22,763 votes.
The breakdown of the final results as declared by INEC was also made available, with A getting 222 votes, AA – 206, AAC – 273, ADC – 1,956, ADP – 1,099, APC – 291,667, APGA – 1,242 and APM – 151 votes.
Others are: APP – 144, BP – 217, LP – 22,763, NNPP – 1,034, NRM – 727, PDP – 247,274, PRP – 6,235, SDP – 537, YPP – 296 and ZLP – 254 votes.
