NIGERIA: DSS Arrests Doctor Allegedly Supplying Drugs to Kidnappers in Kwara
By Ameenat Hamzat, Lagos, Nigeria
The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a medical doctor accused of supplying drugs to kidnapping syndicates operating in remote parts of Kwara State.
The suspect, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was apprehended in Jebba, Moro Local Government Area, while reportedly transporting medical supplies from Sokoto to criminal hideouts.
According to intelligence reports, the doctor was part of a covert network providing treatment to injured kidnappers who sustained gunshot wounds during clashes with security forces. The drugs were allegedly delivered to forested areas where the criminals operate and seek refuge.
Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, confirmed the arrest, noting that it underscores the increasing desperation of criminal syndicates seeking medical assistance as security operations tighten across the state.
Security sources also revealed that the intensified military operations against bandits infiltrating Kwara from neighbouring states have heightened the demand for medical support among the criminal groups.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to uncover other members of the network aiding kidnappers and to strengthen security operations in affected areas.
The statement concluded: “So, we are advising improved security measures in health facilities in thickly forested areas which the kidnappers may target.”
