NIGERIA: Delay In Kenya Certificate Of Secondary Education Exam Results Causes Anxiety Among Candidates
By Lisbeth Micheni, Kenya
Thousands of candidates who sat for the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations are anxiously waiting for their results following a delay in their release.
Traditionally, the results are announced before Christmas, allowing students and parents ample time to plan for the next academic steps.
However, the Ministry of Education has yet to make an official statement regarding the cause of the delay.
Sources within the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) hinted that logistical challenges may have contributed to the postponement.
Reports suggest that the marking process was affected by technical issues and a shortage of examiners, which slowed down the grading and verification process.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu assured the public that the government is working to finalize the results as soon as possible.
“We understand the anxiety among candidates and parents, and we are committed to releasing the results promptly without compromising quality and accuracy,” he stated.
Meanwhile, candidates and parents have taken to social media to express their concerns, urging the Ministry to provide clear communication.
Some schools have also reported receiving inquiries from parents worried about possible disruptions to university and college admissions.
Despite the delay, KNEC has assured stakeholders that measures are in place to ensure no student is disadvantaged.
Universities and colleges are also expected to adjust their admission timelines if necessary.
As the wait continues, education officials are appealing for calm and patience, promising to issue an official statement soon regarding the exact date for the release of the KCSE results.
