Nigeria: Davido Slams INEC Over Edo Election Irregularities, Criticises Voter Restrictions

Award-winning Nigerian musician David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has publicly criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the handling of the Edo State governorship election.

The singer voiced his frustration on social media, urging the electoral body to address the irregularities that marred the process.

In a tweet, Davido wrote, “Bruh, #inecnigeria fix up! We can’t continue like this… wtf.” He explained that his interest in the Edo election stemmed from his personal connection to the state, as his mother is from Edo.

“My mum is from Edo, for those wondering why I’m interested in the election, but we as Nigerians should be concerned. #inecnigeria shame on you. I know how many times I had to come in here and rant before they got it right in Osun! It’s really bad. God help us.”

His outburst followed a statement made by Deputy Inspector General of Police Frank Mba, who had urged Edo residents to return home immediately after casting their votes during an interview on Channels Television. Mba also announced a restriction on vehicular movement from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on election day, adding that only accredited personnel should be seen around polling stations.

Mba stated, “Cast your vote and return home; it’s your civic duty.”

Davido, however, disagreed with this directive, suggesting that voters should stay at polling units to ensure their votes are properly counted.

He reacted to Mba’s comments with a tweet that read, “Loooooooool, go where???”

The music star, who is affiliated with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), had earlier shown his support for the PDP’s governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo.

He also recalled similar frustrations during the Osun State governorship election, where he had to speak out before seeing improvements in the electoral process.
