Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has donated N1.5 billion to victims of the recent flood disaster in Maiduguri.
Dangote made the donation during an assessment visit to some of the affected areas in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Friday, while being accompanied by the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule.
Speaking during the visit, Dangote revealed that N1 billion was allocated to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to work in collaboration with the Borno State government.
“I want to clarify that we have this flood committee. NEMA wrote to us, and after discussions, we approved N1 billion for NEMA to work with the Borno State government,” he stated.
“In addition to that, the Aliko Dangote Foundation will contribute another N500 million, bringing the total donation to N1.5 billion,” Dangote added.
In his remarks, Governor Sule also announced the donation of several trucks of relief materials to support the Borno State government’s efforts in alleviating the suffering of the flood victims.
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, expressed deep appreciation for the generosity shown by Dangote and Governor Sule.
“Not everyone with wealth has the heart to give. Aliko Dangote has been consistently helping our people, and this is not the first time. I pray that Allah rewards you with Aljannah,” Governor Zulum said.
