Nigeria – Controversial Street-Pop Star Portable Begs For Forgiveness After Slapping Pastor

By Onoja Baba, Abuja
Controversial Nigerian street-pop star, Portable, has publicly apologized after a video surfaced showing him slapping a yet to be identified pastor who had come to preach at his bar.
The incident, which took place a few days ago, sparked widespread outrage, with netizens and religious leaders condemning the singer for assaulting “a man of God.”
In response to the backlash, Portable released a video late Monday night, explaining his actions while asking for forgiveness.
The singer attributed his reaction to past experiences, saying he mistook the pastor for someone intending to cause him spiritual harm.
“My fans, community issues are different from that of the street. May God forgive me. I didn’t know he was a genuine man of God. If I knew, I wouldn’t have slapped him. I’m also a child of God. I’m human, I’m not perfect. I am an orphan, and they have harmed my sister through this same strategy,” Portable explained tearfully.
In another viral video that surfaced on Tuesday night, the singer was in tears apologizing to the pastor, who embraced him and called on other preachers to forgive him (Portable) for the incident.
This act of reconciliation has since been widely shared on social media.
