NIGERIA: Businesswoman Tracy Ohiri Collapses In Detention Amid Bail Dispute With Minister Umahi
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Tracy Nither Nicolas Ohiri, the businesswoman detained at the FCT Police Command in Abuja over allegations of cyberbullying linked to a N250 million debt dispute with Minister of Works Senator David Umahi, has collapsed and been rushed to hospital.
The incident occurred on Friday while she awaited release after reportedly meeting all bail conditions imposed by the court.
Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, who has been following the case closely, announced the development on his social media platforms.
He stated that despite the grant of bail and fulfillment of all requirements, Minister Umahi and elements within the Nigeria Police Force allegedly intervened to block her release.
Sowore described the situation as continued harassment and obstruction, noting that Ohiri’s health deteriorated sharply during the prolonged detention.
The entrepreneur has been in custody since her arrest in Lagos on cyberbullying charges, which she claims stem from her public demands for payment of outstanding funds for goods and services supplied to Umahi over 12 years ago.
Ohiri previously alleged misuse of police resources to intimidate her after she rejected the minister’s advances and pursued the civil debt matter through social media and
other channels.
