By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Former President Muhammadu Buhari has participated in the ongoing local government elections in Katsina State, casting his vote in his hometown of Daura.
Buhari arrived at Polling Unit 003, Sarkin Yarn Ward A, on Saturday morning, where he exercised his civic duty alongside the state Commissioner for Special Duties, Adnan Na-Habu Daura.
The former president cast his vote at exactly 11:09 a.m., reaffirming his commitment to democratic processes at the grassroots level.
Speaking after voting, Buhari emphasized the importance of local government elections in strengthening governance and bringing development closer to the people.
He urged voters to conduct themselves peacefully and allow the process to run smoothly.
The Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission (KTSIEC) is conducting the elections across the state’s 34 local government areas, with thousands of voters expected to turn out to elect their local representatives.
Security personnel were deployed across polling units to ensure a hitch-free exercise, with reports indicating a largely peaceful atmosphere so far.
As one of his first major public appearances since leaving office in May 2023, Buhari’s participation in the election signals his continued interest in Nigeria’s democratic processes, particularly at the grassroots level.
