Former President Muhammadu Buhari has extended his congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his two-year anniversary in office.
The former president warned that ongoing reforms should not be derailed by what he called “nettlesome domestic politics.”
Buhari’s statement, issued on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, emphasized that governance is a continuous journey.
He urged Nigerians to support the administration’s efforts, especially in tackling poverty and inflation.
“The reforms will achieve success gradually, not overnight,” Buhari said, calling for steadfast support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) government.
“Necessary reforms and desired changes must not fall victim to nettlesome domestic politics,” he added.
While expressing his backing for Tinubu’s ongoing economic reforms, Buhari stressed that addressing poverty and inflation, which he noted had impacted the poorest Nigerians the hardest, must not be left to government alone.
“The private sector and all of us as citizens must join in all ways we can,” he said.
Urging Nigerians to remain optimistic, Buhari advised citizens to manage expectations and give the government time to deliver.
“Our expectations from our governments should not get heavy,” he said.
The former president concluded by wishing Tinubu continued wisdom and compassion in leadership.
He said “I am wishing President Tinubu heartfelt congratulations on his two years in office. May you keep leading with wisdom and care.”
President Tinubu is to officially mark two years in office on Thursday.
