Nigerian Former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has reaffirmed his close ties with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as he extends warm birthday wishes to him in commemoration of his 73rd birthday.
Buhari’s Special Assistant, Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, stated that in a telephone conversation, Buhari celebrated Tinubu’s contributions to the nation and prayed for his continued good health, long life, and success in office.
The former president emphasized the importance of supporting national leaders, stating that prayers for those in leadership ultimately benefit the country.
Buhari said: “When we pray for our leaders, we are praying for ourselves and the nation. We owe this to ourselves and the nation.”
Reflecting on their long standing political partnership, Buhari expressed gratitude to Tinubu and other leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for their roles in securing his presidency.
He further acknowledged Tinubu’s contributions in shaping the party and facilitating his electoral victories after multiple unsuccessful attempts.
“My family and I remain indebted to Tinubu and other party leaders for their invaluable contributions to the formation of the APC, which propelled me to the presidency for two terms. Their efforts also ensured the continuation of an APC-led government, now under the leadership of Asiwaju,” Buhari stated.
The former President also recognized the president as an entrepreneur, party stalwart, activist, and strategist whose impact on Nigeria’s political landscape is undeniable.
He continued: “No doubt, the annals of the country will not be complete without acknowledging the varied and numerous roles of President Tinubu as a party organizer, builder, and a reliable ally. I am truly proud of my association with the Asiwaju.”
He also reiterated the APC’s vision for national development, emphasizing that the party’s rise to power in 2015 was a mandate to build a better future for all Nigerians.
“When Nigerians entrusted the APC with leadership in 2015, it was a victory for all who wished the country well. It was about laying a foundation for a new Nigeria where the poor have opportunities for a better future. I am glad that this vision remains on course,” he added.
Buhari concluded his message by extending his best wishes to Tinubu, his family, and the Nigerian people for a successful completion of the Ramadan fast and a joyous Eid celebration.
