NIGERIA: Atiku Abubakar’s Son Resigns As Adamawa Commissioner Following Governor Fintiri’s Defection To APC

Adamu Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and until recently the Honourable Commissioner for Works and Energy Development in Adamawa State, has formally resigned from his position.
The resignation comes shortly after Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on February 27, 2026.
In a statement released today, Adamu Atiku expressed profound gratitude to Governor Fintiri for the privilege of serving in the strategic ministry for seven years. He acknowledged the trust, confidence, and opportunity extended to him to contribute to the infrastructural and energy development of Adamawa State.
He also commended the governor’s leadership and the support received throughout his tenure.
The former commissioner thanked his parents, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar and Hajiya Titi Atiku Abubakar, for their moral guidance, prayers, and blessings that sustained him during his time in office.
He extended appreciation to the Permanent Secretaries of Works and Energy, directors, engineers, and all staff of the ministry for their professionalism, resilience, and dedication to advancing critical infrastructure projects across the state.
Adamu Atiku also expressed deep gratitude to the people of Jada for their steadfast prayers, encouragement, and unwavering support.
He described his resignation as the beginning of a new phase of broader developmental engagement and reaffirmed his continued commitment to the unity, growth, and progress of Adamawa State. He stated that he remains loyal to the shared vision of a stronger and more prosperous Adamawa.
The resignation has drawn attention amid the recent political realignment in the state, following Governor Fintiri’s defection to the APC along with his cabinet and key PDP officials.
No immediate comment has been received from Governor Fintiri or the Adamawa State Governmen
