Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has commended the people of Rivers State, following the conclusion of the local government elections, stating that the outcome reflects the triumph of democracy over political intimidation and judicial manipulation.
In a statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, Abubakar lauded the peaceful conduct of the election, emphasizing that the residents of Rivers State, from Port Harcourt to Onne, had spoken in unity by rejecting political oppression and interference by self-serving godfathers.
“The shadows of political intimidation and judicial chicanery have dissipated, paving the way for the noble pursuit of governance to commence in the State,” he said. “The people of Rivers are astute and resolute, unwavering in their rejection of political oppression, harassment, or the machinations of self-serving godfathers.”
Atiku also congratulated the newly elected local government officials and urged them to prioritize the welfare of the people in their governance, warning against tyranny and personal ambition.
“I urge them to wear the welfare of the people as their foremost badge of honor and shun tyranny and delusional ambition in their political endeavors,” he advised.
The former vice president went on to commend the people of Rivers State for their steadfastness and courage in ensuring that the election was conducted with peace and integrity despite challenges.
He further praised Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the election process.
“In the grand tapestry of this election, it is ultimately the people who emerge victorious, their sacred right to choose their leaders firmly upheld within the framework of our democratic process,” Atiku added.
