The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has elected Professor Chris Piwuna as its new national president, following its 23rd National Delegates Congress held at the University of Benin, Edo State.
Piwuna, a professor of medicine and consultant psychiatrist, takes over leadership from Professor Emmanuel Osodeke of the University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, who has served since May 2021.
Before his election, Prof. Piwuna was the National Vice President of ASUU and previously served as Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Jos, Plateau State.
He emerged victorious in the keenly contested election against Professor Adamu Babayo from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi State.
An official communiqué from ASUU is expected after the congress on Monday.
