The Nigerian Army has announced a major breakthrough in its ongoing counterterrorism operations, revealing that troops have seized a massive cache of light machine gun ammunition in Zamfara State and recorded multiple successes across the country.
According to the announcement by the army via social media on Sunday, troops of 1 Brigade Combat Team 6 operating in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara neutralised a terrorist and recovered an AK-47 rifle, three magazines loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition, and a motorcycle.
In a related operation in Ngaski, Kebbi State, troops of 1 Battalion (Rear) foiled a coordinated attack on five communities, engaging the terrorists in a fierce three-hour battle.
The army said the attackers fled after being overpowered by superior firepower, leaving behind more than 700 rounds of 7.62mm PKT ammunition, three motorcycles, communication devices, and a kidnapped victim who was rescued unhurt.
In the North-East, troops of 112 Task Force Battalion in Mafa, Borno State, also thwarted an ISWAP assault, killing two terrorists and recovering two AK-47 rifles. Similarly, soldiers of 27 Task Force Brigade, working alongside hybrid forces and local hunters in Gujba, Yobe State, ambushed and eliminated two terrorists, seizing motorcycles and other supplies.
The Air and Artillery Components of Operation Hadin Kai intensified aerial bombardments and artillery strikes on terrorist hideouts around the Lake Chad region. Surveillance drones from 68 Battalion in Mallam Fatori tracked insurgent movements and coordinated precision artillery fire in collaboration with the Nigerien Air Force, dispersing the attempted incursion.
In Monguno, Borno State, troops conducted cordon-and-search operations, arresting 13 suspects without proper identification, disrupting terrorist logistics networks in the process.
Further north, troops of 3 Brigade in Kano apprehended three suspected kidnappers and a known terrorist collaborator who had long been on the security watchlist.
Meanwhile, in the South-South, troops intensified anti-oil theft operations, uncovering an illegal oil dump at an abandoned petrol station in Enugu North, where over 90,000 litres of refined products were discovered and two suspects arrested.
Similar raids in Delta and Rivers States led to six arrests and the destruction of multiple illegal refineries.
The army added that in joint operations with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, 32 drug dealers were arrested in Bayelsa and Lagos States, with large quantities of cannabis sativa and other illicit substances seized.
In Katsina and Plateau States, soldiers thwarted separate kidnapping attempts, rescuing three victims and apprehending four informants and logistics suppliers.
In Gwagwalada, Abuja, vigilant troops intercepted a suspected arms courier carrying a Beretta pistol and 9mm ammunition.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its resolve to sustain the momentum of its operations, dismantle criminal networks, and safeguard lives and property across the country, describing the latest successes as a testament to the courage, professionalism, and resilience of Nigerian troops.
