The All-Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has emerged victorious in the September 28, local government elections in Anambra State, sweeping all 21 chairmanship seats and 326 councillorship positions across the state’s local government areas.
Chibueze Ofobuike, one of the newly elected chairmen, took to social media to celebrate his win in the Aguata Local Government Area.
He shared his excitement, stating, “With a total vote of 37,114, my running mate and I have been declared the winners of the 2024 Aguata Local Government Area elections under the platform of APGA. The closest contender, from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), garnered 3,383 votes.”
Ofobuike expressed gratitude to his supporters, adding, “How do I begin the expression of my gratitude? Here’s to the newest Mayor-Elect of Aguata Local Government Area!”
The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) confirmed APGA’s dominance in a press briefing held on Sunday. Genevieve Osakwe, the ANSIEC chairman, announced that APGA secured all the chairmanship and councillorship positions, reaffirming the party’s widespread support across the state.
Describing the election as one of the fairest in recent history, Osakwe emphasized that the commission took great care in meticulously collating and analyzing the results. She further praised the people of Anambra for their high voter turnout and commended the security agencies for ensuring peace and order during the election process.
Osakwe stated, “This is to affirm the results of the chairmanship and councillorship elections held on September 28, 2024. The commission ensured that all scores were properly collated and announced at polling units. We are here today to confirm the results as recorded. The election was free, fair, and credible.”
Despite APGA’s sweeping victory, opposition parties were notably absent during the final declaration of the results at the ANSIEC office. Party officials and agents of APGA, however, were present to witness the announcement of their landslide victory.
