NIGERIA: AGF Calls On EFCC To Stop Revenue Leakages Threatening 2025 Budget

By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, has raised concern over severe revenue leakages, threatening Nigeria’s ability to fund the 2025 budget.
Ogunjimi made the request on Wednesday in Abuja when he paid a courtesy visit to the EFCC’s Corporate Headquarters.
He has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to urgently step in and help block the financial drain across government agencies.
“We believe that for us to be able to perform or achieve our own mandate, we need your support and collaboration,” said Ogunjimi during a visit to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, May 20.
He warned that without effective action, the government may struggle to pay salaries or meet critical obligations.
“It is because of the strategic position of this office that we feel we can not go further or achieve better results without effective collaboration with this Commission,” he added.
Responding, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede assured that the Commission would support the effort to protect the nation’s finances.
“We want to pledge our commitment and support to ensure that we create a saner and sound financial system in Nigeria,” said Olukoyede.
He noted that the EFCC and the Office of the Accountant-General share a common goal in fighting financial misconduct.
“If we manage our resources properly, we will be able to fund those projects,” he added.
Olukoyede emphasized that through strong collaboration, revenue leakages can be blocked, fraud traced, and public confidence restored.
