NIGERIA: Adekunle Gold Launches Free Health Insurance Scheme For Sickle Cell Patients

Popular Nigerian singer and songwriter, Adekunle Almoruf Kosoko, famously known as, Adekunle Gold, has unveiled a free health insurance programme to support individuals living with sickle cell disorder.
The initiative, tagged 5 Star Care, was officially announced on Thursday via the artist’s Instagram page to commemorate World Sickle Cell Day.
Adekunle Gold, who has publicly shared his personal experience with the condition, said the scheme will initially provide free health insurance coverage to 1,000 sickle cell warriors in Lagos State.
He write: “Today is World Sickle Cell Day. And today, I’m proud to announce something that’s deeply personal to me We’re starting small by providing free health insurance to 1,000 people living with sickle cell in Lagos State. But this is only the beginning.”
The 5 Star Care initiative is being implemented through the Adekunle Gold Foundation in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Health, the Lagos State Health Management Agency, and the Sickle Cell Management Initiatives.
In a video accompanying the announcement, the High crooner explained the motivation behind the programme:
He said: “We believe that every life deserves a 5-star care, no matter where you’re from, what you earn, or what you’re going through.”
He added, “Our goal is simple: to ease the financial burden of managing sickle cell and help more people get the quality care they deserve without stress. And as somebody who’s walked this path, I know how powerful it is to have the right support.”
Adekunle Gold also stressed that the initiative is only the beginning of a broader commitment to improving the lives of sickle cell warriors.
He urged those eligible to visit the foundation’s website to register for the insurance scheme.
