NIGERIA: 53 Arrested Over Deadly Attacks In Benue, Plateau – IGP Egbetokun

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the arrest of 53 suspects in connection with a series of deadly attacks in Benue and Plateau states, which have left dozens dead, injured, and displaced.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Egbetokun described the June 13 massacre in Yelewata, Benue State, as a “coordinated attack of terror.”
According to him, 26 suspects were apprehended in connection with the Yelewata killings, 22 others for separate attacks in Plateau State, and five more for a recent assault in Benue.
Egbetokun revealed: “The tragic incident in Yelewata led to the deaths of 47 persons, while 27 others sustained injuries.”
The IGP further disclosed that the police recovered a cache of arms used during the assaults, including two general-purpose machine guns and eight AK-47 rifles.
While investigations are ongoing, Egbetokun assured the public that security agencies are working tirelessly to restore peace and bring all perpetrators to justice.
