Nana Kazaure, a former spokesperson for the Obi-Datti presidential campaign, has expressed confidence that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate in the 2023 elections, has the potential to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
In a statement to the media, Kazaure attributed Obi’s rising popularity to the increasing dissatisfaction among Nigerian youths with the current administration.
She claimed that the former Anambra State governor’s support base has significantly expanded within the past year.
“Peter Obi is the one that youths want,” Kazaure stated. “We even have more youths now supporting Obi, especially as they are more disappointed with this government than before.”
She also addressed internal conflicts within the Labour Party and suggested that Obi’s path to victory could be further strengthened by the introduction of an independent candidacy law.
According to Kazaure, such a bill, if passed before the 2027 elections, would enable broader participation in Nigeria’s electoral process and allow Obi to bypass the challenges posed by party politics.
“The National Assembly has been talking about an independent candidacy that could allow the participation of Nigerians in the electoral process without belonging to a political party. If that is made available in Nigeria, I think it will be okay for Peter Obi,” she added.
Kazaure’s remarks highlight the evolving political landscape in Nigeria as voters, particularly the youth, become increasingly vocal about their expectations and frustrations with leadership.
Whether Obi can capitalize on this momentum remains to be seen, but the growing calls for electoral reform and dissatisfaction with the status quo suggest a challenging road ahead for the incumbent administration.
