Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime minister of Israel, has disclosed new details surrounding the death of Hamas leader, Yahya Sinwar, who was reportedly killed while trying to escape from Israeli forces in Rafah, a city near Gaza’s southern border with Egypt.
Netanyahu disclosed that Sinwar along with a group of Hamas militants had been hiding in Rafah when Israeli soldiers advanced towards them. He described Sinwar’s death as taking place “in panic” during an attempted escape.
In his address, Netanyahu defended Israel’s ongoing military operations, stating that the necessity to enter Rafah was the reason for refusing international calls for a ceasefire. He remarked, “It is now clear why we refused to end the war.”
The Prime Minister also issued a stern warning to those holding hostages in Gaza, urging them to surrender. He assured that anyone who lays down arms and releases hostages would be allowed to leave safely.
However, he added a strong caution for those who harm hostages, warning that they would face consequences, saying, “Their blood will be on their own heads, and we will make them pay.”
Netanyahu’s statement comes amid growing international concern over the escalation of violence in Gaza.
