Seventy students from seven universities in Malawi will benefit from the National Bank of Malawi’s (NBM) new initiative, the NBM Excellence Program.
The program, valued at K270 million, aims to support intelligent students who are struggling to pay fees, with the bank planning to double the amount next year.
According to NBM’s CEO Harold Jiya, the bank will also award a maximum of five Dean’s List students in each of the seven institutions every year.
This initiative supports Malawi’s 2063 enabler, human capital development, as highlighted by Secretary of Education Mangani Chilala Katundu.
Launar’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Agness Mwangwera, emphasised that most students at the universities are intelligent and should not have to drop out due to financial constraints.
The NBM Excellence Program is a significant step towards addressing this issue.
