Murder: Adamawa Police Command Denies Torturing Suspected Killers Of Thomas Godwin Zamfara

The Adamawa State Police Command, through its spokesman, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, has denied torturing the suspected killers of Thomas Godwin, popularly known as Zamfara.
Recall African Culture TV reported that Zamfara, the Organisation Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hong Local Government Area, Adamawa state, who doubles as senior special assistant to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, was allegedly murdered in cold blood on 15th April 2025, by unknown persons.
One of the suspects Umar Ibrahim Sarkin Pawa, who was apprehended by the police, released a video which went viral on Tuesday night, claiming he was blind folded and tortured by the police into accepting that he murdered Zamfara.
In the video, Pawa alleged: “I’m a butcher, and was selling meat in the market, when the police came to Kala’a and arrested me.
“I was later taken to Yola where I was tortured along with others to accept that we knew the killers or that we were the ones who killed him. To which we do not know anything.
“There was no form of torture we didn’t receive for the 17 days we were in their custody. No food, no water. They kept investigating, and when they couldn’t get what they wanted from us, they released us.”
Similarly, another suspect, Sunday Terrang, an immigration officer, also came up with similar allegations, claiming he was also tortured by the police before being released.
However, in a press release shared with African Culture TV on Wednesday evening, by the command’s spokesman, the police denied knowledge of any torture.
The Command gave the list of the remaining suspects as Sunday Terrang, Umar Ibrahim, Sadiq Ishaku, Solomon Gideon, Ahmed Aminu, Danlami Ali, Godwin Chakukuyada, Akacha Daniel Samari, and Ibrahim Bakari.
Speaking on the video, spokesman said: “The Adamawa State Police Command became aware of a video currently circulating on social media wherein Umar Ibrahim, Sarkin pawa, Kala’a alleges they were arrested tortured, starved, and coerced into making false confessions in connection with the ongoing investigation into the murder of Mr. Thomas Godwin, popularly known as Zamfara.
“To set the record straight, the Command launched an investigation into the alleged killing of Zamfara and that led to the arrest of nine (9) suspects.”
According to the spokesman, the suspects were all male of various addresses, and after a preliminary investigation, their case file, were transferred to the Force Intelligence Rapid Response Team (IRRT), Abuja, for further discreet investigation.
He noted that it’s important to know that their statements were recorded in the presence of the State Legal Aid Council. All processes were video recorded.
“The command categorically refutes these allegations. At no point did the rights of any suspect violated.
“All arrests, interviews, and procedures were conducted in accordance with the international best practice and standard investigation procedures.
- “The Command views the video as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public, attract undue sympathy and undermine the credibility of the Command’s professional ethics. While we respect the rights of individuals to speak freely, we advise against spreading falsehoods that may be misleading and possibly jeopardize the ongoing investigations.”
