MTN South Sudan has unveiled a new open-market smartphone bundling service aimed at expanding internet access across the country. The initiative offers new subscribers 1 GB of data every month for six months.
During the launch event on Thursday afternoon, MTN South Sudan’s CEO, Monzer Ali, described the service as a major step forward in enhancing affordable internet access for South Sudanese citizens.
“With this initiative, we are not just offering mobile services; we are transforming the way South Sudanese connect to the world. We are empowering our customers with the flexibility to use any smartphone, regardless of the network, on MTN South Sudan,” Ali explained.
“All a customer needs to do is insert the MTN SIM card into their smartphone, and they will automatically receive 1 GB of data each month for the next six months. This initiative is a game-changer, providing data access to anyone with a smartphone on our network,” he added.
Ali emphasized that MTN South Sudan is dedicated to fostering digital inclusion and bridging the digital divide in the country.
“By offering free data without any conditions, we are accelerating digital inclusion and narrowing the digital gap in South Sudan. This is a huge boost to the ICT sector, creating opportunities for our customers to seek employment, further their education, and engage in e-commerce. Ultimately, this will contribute to the broader economic growth of the nation. MTN South Sudan envisions a future where every South Sudanese has the right to access advanced technology,” Ali said.
Kur Nyok Deng, Secretary-General of the National Chamber of Commerce, lauded MTN South Sudan for its pioneering efforts, noting that the company’s affordable services have already empowered millions of South Sudanese.
Deng urged MTN to continue its work in fostering a resilient digital ecosystem, one that can provide further opportunities for the nation’s youth and help transform the economy.
“This is not just a commercial achievement; it is a strategic investment in the future of South Sudan, a future where technology drives education, entrepreneurship, and national unity. Let this be the first of many initiatives aimed at strengthening the country’s digital resilience,” Deng said.
