MALAWI:ADMARC Procures Over 2,500 Tonnes of Maize as Procurement Drive Gains Momentum

By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
The state grain trader, Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC), has procured over 2,500 tonnes of maize since April this year, out of its targeted 17,000 tonnes for 2025.
ADMARC Chief Executive Officer, Daniel Makata, told Zodiak today that most of the maize has been procured from the Southern Region, while procurement in other regions is progressing more slowly. However, he expressed optimism that the target would be met.
Makata also urged farmers to bring more crops, including maize, noting that funds are available and that the government has committed an additional financial top-up.
Agriculture expert Gresham Kamnyamata has advised authorities to be innovative and adaptive in order to meet procurement targets amid increasing market competition.
In the 2025/2026 national budget, Parliament allocated K60 billion for maize purchases by ADMARC and the National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA), with K20 billion designated for ADMARC.
