MALAWI: US-Based Philanthropist Donates Wheelchairs To Students With Disabilities
By Smile Hamilton Malawi
US-based Malawian philanthropist Chawezi Banda, popularly known as Cha-Cha, has donated two wheelchairs to Form One students at Lunzu Secondary School in Blantyre and Bangula in Nsanje.
In a statement released through her manager, Cha-Cha said the donation forms part of her ongoing charity work aimed at supporting vulnerable learners across the country.
She noted that she understands the challenges faced by students with physical disabilities, particularly when it comes to accessing education.
At Lunzu Secondary School, the wheelchair was presented to 14-year-old Sphiwe Bandawe. The second wheelchair is expected to be handed over to a student at Bangula later this week.
Bandawe expressed gratitude for the support, saying that the donation had come at the right time. “With the high cost of living, my family could not afford to buy a wheelchair,” he said.
