The National Planning Commission (NPC) and Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) have signed a memorandum of understanding to advance industrial research and promote industrial mentality in the students with intent to spur the country’s industrialisation agenda.
The country’s prevailing industrial slowdown has adversely affected the momentum towards Malawi 2063 goals and according to NPC Director General, Thomas Munthali, the partnership is aimed at applying industrial research approaches to complement efforts under the ATMM strategy which prioritises agriculture, tourism, mining and manufacturing development.
MUST Vice Chancellor Professor Address Malata said this comes on top of ongoing efforts by the institution in contributing to industrial growth, citing plans to start production of electronic devices like tablets.
She further said once the construction of university’s industrial park is finished, there will be full industrialisation drive alongside industrial research that will feed the industry with commercially scalable solutions.
