Malawi’s National Statistical Office (NSO) has teamed up with the National Commission for Science and Technology (NCST), to launch a groundbreaking business innovation survey.
This pioneering initiative, announced on Wednesday in Lilongwe, aims to explore the country’s innovative landscape and its impact on technological advancements and job creation.
The survey, valued at 180 million kwacha, is set to begin on January 27 and conclude in May 2025.
A total of 600 enterprises, comprising both private and public entities, have been selected to participate in the survey.
This comprehensive study will provide valuable insights into the types of innovations emerging in Malawi and their potential to drive economic growth.
According to Gift Kadzamira, Director General of the NCST, who spoke exclusively to African Culture TV, this survey marks a significant milestone in Malawi’s journey towards achieving its development goals.
“We are excited to embark on this initiative, which will help us better understand the innovative capacity of our country,” Kadzamira said.
Commissioner for Statistics Shelton Kanyanda emphasised that the survey will enable Malawians to discover locally-made innovations and integrate them into the country’s development strategy, ultimately contributing to the achievement of Malawi 2063 goals.
“By conducting this survey, we aim to create a conducive environment that fosters innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth,” Kanyanda added.
The business innovation survey is expected to have a profound impact on Malawi’s economic development, as it will provide policymakers with valuable data to inform their decisions.
The survey’s findings will also help to identify areas where innovation can be harnessed to drive growth, improve livelihoods, and enhance the coun
try’s competitiveness.
