MALAWI: St John Of God Urges Media To Raise Mental Health Awareness
By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
St John of God Hospitaller Services has urged the media to continue raising awareness on mental health issues across the country.
Programme Manager for the organization, Dr. Christopher Mhone, made the remarks during an engagement session with media practitioners on mental health and psychosocial first aid orientation training.
Dr. Mhone observed that many Malawians are experiencing emotional and psychological challenges related to mental health, largely due to economic hardships. He therefore called on the media to intensify mental health education and reporting to support people going through trauma.
“The media has the power to change perceptions and help communities understand that mental health is just as important as physical health,” said Dr. Mhone.
