MALAWI: Senior Chief Calls For Decency During Kulamba Ceremony

The Paramount Chief of the Chewa people, Kalonga Gawa Undi, has issued a stern warning to all dancers participating in the upcoming Kulamba ceremony.

According to Gawa Undi, all dancers should maintain dignity and respect during the traditional event.

The Kulamba ceremony is set to take place on August 30 in Mkaika, Zambia. Gawa Undi emphasized the importance of upholding the dignity of the Chewa people during the event.

This directive has been communicated to all chiefs in Malawi, Zambia, and Mozambique through Senior Chief Lukwa of Kasungu district, who oversees the organization of the ceremony.

In a statement, Senior Chief Lukwa explained that last year, Gawa Undi returned a dancer who was not properly dressed.

The Paramount Chief stressed that the Chewa people value dignity and respect, and all dancers should adhere to these values during the ceremony.

Preparations for the event are underway, with the first planning meeting held on July 29 and the second meeting scheduled for August 26.
