Malawi – Residents Of Ff Likoma And Chizumulu Islands Get Relief From Transportation Challenges

By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
The reintroduction of the MV Chambo ferry, previously operated in Mozambique, has brought relief to travellers between Nkhata-Bay and other areas.
According to Watson Maingo, the ferry resumed operations on September 26, easing transportation difficulties on Malawi’s waters.
The MV Chambo initially stopped operating in 2019 due to Covid-19 restrictions in Malawi and Mozambique.
Frank Mkali, Chairperson of Likoma’s Development Committee, welcomed the ferry’s return, citing reduced transportation hassles for island residents and various workers.
Mkali expressed concern that some people struggle to travel due to limited ferry services, leading to delayed goods and impacting local employment.
He urged the government to increase Malawi’s water transport services to alleviate these challenges
