Malawi President Mutharika Embarks On First Official Foreign Trip To South Africa

President Professor Peter Arthur Mutharika has departed for a trip to the Republic of South Africa, marking his first international journey since assuming office as President of Malawi. The visit is expected to strengthen diplomatic relations and explore new economic opportunities between the two nations.


The aircraft carrying Mutharika, with registration number ZS-FCI, took off from Bakili Muluzi International Airport in Blantyre at 4:34 in the afternoon. Airport staff and security officials ensured a smooth departure process.
Senior government officials were present to witness the President’s departure, reflecting the importance of the mission and the confidence in the engagements planned in South Africa.
Traditional leaders also joined the delegation accompanying the President, demonstrating national unity and support for Mutharika as he undertakes his first foreign trip since taking office.
Other dignitaries and supporters gathered to bid farewell, expressing optimism that the visit will bring new opportunities and deepen cooperation, signaling an active diplomatic agenda under President Mutharika’s leadership.
