President Peter Mutharika has appointed former Speaker of Parliament, Richard Msowoya, as Head of Mission for the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Electoral Observer Mission (SEOM) to Tanzania.
Mutharika made the appointment in his capacity as Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation.
This appointment comes as Tanzania prepares for its General Elections scheduled for 29 October 2025, during which citizens will vote for the President, Members of the National Assembly, and Ward Councillors.
The SADC Electoral Observer Mission is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring that the electoral process in Tanzania is free, fair, and transparent.
Operating under the leadership of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, the mission’s mandate is to observe and report on the conduct of the elections, ensuring that they meet both regional and international standards.
Msowoya’s vast political and leadership experience is expected to enhance the mission’s effectiveness in promoting credible and peaceful elections across the region.
