The Malawi Peace and Unity Commission is working to promote peace and unity in the country, despite rising political tensions. Bishop Mary Mkosi, a member of the commission, emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence, citing the recent violent clashes between supporters of different political parties.
Mkosi condemned the violence, stating that it undermines the country’s democratic principles. She also expressed concern over the destruction of property, including the burning of vehicles and homes. Mkosi urged Malawians to embrace peace and tolerance, regardless of their political affiliations.
Meanwhile, Boneface Chibwana, executive director of the Center for Multiparty Democracy, warned that some politicians are exploiting the violence for their own gain. He cautioned that this could lead to further instability and undermine the country’s democratic progress.
In related news, some Malawians have been protesting against the violence, calling for peace and unity. Others have been criticizing the government’s handling of the situation, accusing it of failing to prevent the violence.
The Malawi Peace and Unity Commission was established to promote peace, unity, and reconciliation in the country. Its members include representatives from various religious and civil society organizations.
