MALAWI: PAC Slams Chakwera’s Leadership, Cites Failures In Economy And Corruption

By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
The Public Affairs Committee (PAC) has expressed strong disappointment with President Lazarus Chakwera’s leadership style, citing failures in several key areas, including the economy and corruption.
According to PAC Chairperson Monsignor Patrick Thawale, Chakwera’s administration has demonstrated significant weaknesses in addressing corruption and abuse of funds, despite campaign promises to tackle these issues.
During a meeting at State House, PAC told Chakwera that his leadership has put the economy in bad shape.
The Committee also expressed disappointment over allegations that the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is becoming an instrument of oppression by stopping demonstrations.
Additionally, PAC condemned the stoning of the Presidential motorcade.
PAC warned Chakwera that the general political atmosphere puts his party on the exit stage unless something spectacular emerges.
“The doubt on your winning is loud and clear, even in your strongholds.
“It is our hope that in the remaining months, you can always turn around this perception. The doubt is real. The failures are massive and obvious,” the committee said.
It further cautioned Chakwera that his officials will likely dismiss the concerns raised by PAC.
However, PAC maintained that the standard of living has gone down, the perception that the regime is corrupt still stands, and that most civil servants are frustrated.
The Committee also noted that the fuel crisis continues, emphasizing that “the leadership is lacking.”
PAC’s statement highlights the need for Chakwera’s administration to address the pressing issues facing Malawi, including economic mismanagement, corruption, and abuse of power.
The Committee’s warnings serve as a wake-up call for the administration to take corrective action and restore public trust.
