At least K200 million has reportedly been spent on this year’s Mulhakho wa Alhomwe ceremony, which is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Chonde in Mulanje District.
The event is expected to attract more than 500 local chiefs and 100 from abroad and celebrates the traditions and heritage of the Alhomwe people.
The chairperson of the event, Jubeki Monjeza, said preparations for the ceremony are now complete and all arrangements have been finalised.
“Everything is ready to welcome guests both from within Malawi and from other countries,” he said.

He added that there will be tight security at the event, provided by the police, army, and local security personnel, to ensure a safe and smooth ceremony.
Mulanje District Commissioner, Macmillan Magomero, emphasised the importance of preserving cultural traditions. “Promoting our cultural heritage is key to fostering unity and pride among Malawians,” he said.

Organisers say the event will include traditional dances, music, and rituals, offering an opportunity for communities to showcase their heritage while also boosting tourism and local businesses.
