MALAWI: Over 2.5 Million Registers To Vote In Malawi’s 3rd Phase Of Voter Registration

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has announced that a total of 2,515,315 people have registered to vote in the 3rd phase of voter registration, which took place from November 28 to December 11, 2024.
This brings the total number of registered voters to over 7 million, with 2,224,307 individuals registered in the first phase and 2,422,595 in the second phase.
The MEC has expressed satisfaction with the turnout, citing the importance of voter registration in ensuring the credibility and legitimacy of the electoral process. The Commission has also commended the efforts of various stakeholders, including political parties, civil society organizations, and traditional leaders, in mobilizing citizens to register.
Malawi is expected to hold general elections on September 16th, 2025, and the MEC has assured the public that it is working tirelessly to ensure that the elections are free, fair, and credible. The Commission has also urged all registered voters to exercise their right to vote, stating that every vote counts in shaping the country’s future.
As the country prepares for the upcoming elections, the MEC has reminded citizens of the importance of peaceful and issue-based campaigning. The Commission has also warned against any form of violence, intimidation, or manipulation, emphasizing that the electoral process must be guided by the principles of transparency, accountability, and fairness.
