Over 500 delegates are expected to attend this year’s Institute of People Management Malawi (IPMM) annual Lakeshore Conference, scheduled for 23–25 October in Mangochi, following a K5 million donation from Old Mutual.

Speaking in Blantyre during the cheque handover, IPMM Executive Director Willy Nkhoma confirmed that preparations are at an advanced stage.
“So far, over 300 delegates, including participants from outside Malawi, have confirmed their attendance,” said Nkhoma.

He added that this year’s conference, which will run under the theme “HR Re-imagined: Shaping the Future of Work”, aims at equipping HR professionals to handle emerging workplace challenges.
“Our focus is to ensure that HR professionals are empowered to create safe, productive, and inclusive workplaces for all workers,” he explained.
Old Mutual’s subsidiary, Mthunzi Funeral Services Limited, also expressed pride in supporting the event.
“The donation is a clear endorsement of the vital role IPMM plays in ensuring HR professionals are skilled and positioned to meet future challenges,” said General Manager Linda Poya.
She further noted that Old Mutual remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote professionalism and growth in Malawi’s workforce.
“As a company, we believe in investing in people, and this partnership is our way of contributing to the country’s human capital development,” added Poya.
For the first time, the conference will also recognize and award outstanding HR professionals, a development Nkhoma said will “inspire excellence and raise the standards of HR practice in Malawi.”
