MALAWI: Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve Thrives, African Parks Reports K106 Million Revenue

By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
African Parks, the organization managing Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve, has announced a significant revenue collection of approximately K106 million in the previous year. According to David Nangoma, Park Manager, the increased revenue is attributed to a surge in local and international tourists visiting the reserve.
The growth in tourism is believed to be driven by the successful translocation of additional animal species into the reserve, enhancing its appeal to visitors. Nangoma disclosed this information during a Joint Liaison Committee meeting held in Nkhotakota district.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including district commissioners, chiefs, and representatives from surrounding districts such as Kasungu, Ntchisi, Nkhotakota, and Mzimba. iNkosi Khonsolo, Chairperson of the committee and Chief from Mzimba district, highlighted the importance of the meeting, which provided a platform for African Parks and stakeholders to discuss progress, challenges, and potential solutions.
Nkhotakota District Commissioner, Ben Matengeni Tohno praised African Parks for its dedication to wildlife conservation. He noted that the thriving tourism activities in the reserve would enable the council to develop Nkhotakota into a tourism city, potentially boosting local economic growth.
