MALAWI: New Conservative Party Emerges In Malawi Centred On Traditional Values

By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
Malawi’s political landscape has welcomed a new player, the Solidarity Alliance, a conservative party led by Dr. Victor Mandlopa. The party has joined the ranks of over 40 existing political parties in the country.
During a press briefing on Sunday, Mandlopa outlined the party’s core values, expressing his concerns about the state of the country.
He described Malawi as a “country in intensive care unit, about to die.” He emphasized the need for change, citing the country’s inability to produce enough food for its people. Dr. Mandlopa criticized politicians who exploit people’s plight, saying, “There should be no joy in giving people maize.”
The Solidarity Alliance’s conservative ideology is centered around traditional values. The party opposes abortion and same-sex relationships. Dr. Mandlopa also proposed introducing a federal system of government, which would divide power between national and local governments.
When questioned about the growing number of parties in Malawi, Dr. Mandlopa argued that many parties lack clear ideologies, instead promoting tribalism and regionalism. He believes the Solidarity Alliance’s conservative stance sets it apart. With its unique platform, the Solidarity Alliance is poised to make its mark on Malawi’s political scene.
