MALAWI: National Planning Commission Engages Religious Leaders To Achieve Malawi 2063 Vision

By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
The National Planning Commission (NPC) has called upon religious leaders to play a crucial role in transforming the mindset of Malawians to achieve the Malawi 2063 vision.
According to NPC’s Director of Development Planning, Dr. Grace Kumchulesi, faith leaders have a significant influence on about 98% of the population, who are believers, making them ideal messengers for the country’s blueprint.
Dr. Kumchulesi made these remarks in Dowa during an engagement session with religious leaders from the central region.
The goal was to highlight their role in achieving the Malawi 2063 vision, which aims to transform Malawi into a wealthy and self-reliant industrialized upper-middle-income country by 2063.
Presidential Advisor on Religious Affairs, Reverend Brian Kamwendo, emphasized the importance of the faith sector in driving socio-economic development.
He believes that by spreading positive messages, religious leaders can contribute significantly to the country’s progress.
The Malawi Conference of Catholic Bishops (MCCB) Secretary General, Fr. Valeriano Mtseka, noted that the Catholic Church is already supporting the Malawi 2063 agenda through various social services, including education and healthcare.
By engaging religious leaders, the NPC hopes to leverage their influence to promote the Malawi 2063 vision and ultimately achieve a more prosperous and self-reliant Malawi.
The NPC recognizes that achieving the Malawi 2063 vision requires a collective effort from all stakeholders, including religious leaders.
By working together, they aim to create a shared understanding of the vision and its goals, as well as promote a culture of hard work, patriotism, and integrity.
Religious leaders are also encouraged to incorporate the Malawi 2063 vision into their sermons and teachings, emphasizing the importance of individual and collective responsibility in achieving the vision.
The engagement session with religious leaders is part of the NPC’s broader efforts to popularize the Malawi 2063 vision and ensure its successful implementation.
Similar sessions are planned with other stakeholders, including traditional leaders, the private sector, and civil society organizations.
