MALAWI: Mzimba Chief Dismisses Traditional Leaders Over Anti-MCP Primary Statement
By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
Inkosi Chindi of Mzimba has dismissed several traditional leaders, who recently held a press conference declaring their opposition to the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), holding another primary election in the region.

In recent days, the chiefs called on journalists to address the confusion and unrest that arose during the party’s previous primary election in the central part of the Mzimba district.
During the press briefing, the chiefs stated that they no longer want MCP primaries to be held in their area, citing concerns about political violence and disruption.
In response, Inkosi Chindi, who oversees the dismissed chiefs, said they were removed because they acted without consulting or being delegated by him.
“What these chiefs have done is shameful and a disgrace to my leadership,” said Inkosi Chindi.
