Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika was officially sworn in as President of the Republic of Malawi on Saturday during a colourful inauguration ceremony held at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

The ceremony, which drew thousands of Malawians and several international dignitaries, marked Mutharika’s return to power following his victory in the recent presidential election.
In his inaugural speech, Mutharika pledged to unite the nation and focus on rebuilding the economy, fighting corruption, and improving social services.

“This victory is not mine alone—it belongs to every Malawian who believes in peace, democracy, and progress,” Mutharika said. “Together, we will rebuild this country and ensure that no citizen is left behind.”

The event was attended by Vice President Justice Jane Ansah, former heads of state, diplomats, and religious leaders, among others. Military parades, traditional dances, and performances by local artists added colour to the day.
Speaking on behalf of the international community, Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa congratulated Mutharika and expressed optimism that Malawi will continue to play a leading role in promoting peace and development within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Vice President Ansah also took her oath of office, promising to support the President’s vision for national unity and development.
“We are entering a new chapter where every Malawian must take part in building our country,” Ansah said.
The inauguration concluded with a 21-gun salute and the national anthem, symbolising the beginning of a new administration under President Mutharika.
