President Lazarus Chakwera has delegated Minister of Trade, Vitumbiko Mumba, to lead Malawi’s delegation at the 45th Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit, scheduled to take place in Antananarivo, Madagascar, on August 17, 2025.
According to a communication from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mumba will represent President Chakwera at the high-level meeting, which will bring together Heads of State and Government from across the region.
The summit will focus on key regional priorities including industrialisation, agricultural transformation, energy transition, peace, security, and economic growth. Leaders are also expected to review progress under the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020–2030.
This year’s meeting will be held under the theme “Advancing Industrialisation, Agricultural Transformation, and Energy Transition for a Resilient SADC.” The theme reflects the bloc’s commitment to building stronger economies, improving food security, and enhancing sustainable energy supply across member states.
Madagascar, which is hosting the event, will also take over the SADC Chairmanship from Zimbabwe. The host nation has lined up preparatory activities including an Industrialisation Week and a Business Forum to promote investment and regional cooperation.
The SADC Summit is the organisation’s highest policy-making institution and provides a platform for member states to strengthen integration, coordinate development strategies, and address emerging challenges affecting the region.
