MALAWI: MCP Aspirant Seeks Out-Of-Court Settlement For Electoral Dispute
By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
Vitumbiko Mumba, a Malawi Congress Party (MCP) aspirant for Mzimba Central, has written to the party proposing an out-of-court settlement for their electoral dispute. Through his lawyer Khumbo Soko, Mumba has suggested that the party consider resolving the issue through open and sincere dialogue to expedite the resolution process and allow candidates sufficient time to prepare for the September poll.
Soko believes that the MCP will share his client’s view on the importance of dialogue to ensure a credible primary election is held promptly. However, MCP Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda has declined to comment on the matter.

Political analyst Dr. George Chaima interprets the letter as a sign that Mumba values dialogue and may be apprehensive about the potential outcome of the court process. Chaima suggests that the solution to resolving the dispute lies with the party’s secretary general.
